Men all over the world are growing moustaches this month for the charity event Movember, but now a woman has got in on the act.

Marketing manager, Joanna Thomas, is sticking or drawing a different moustache on her lip every day for this month in an effort to raise awareness of men’s health issues and encourage donations to prostate and testicular cancer charities.

Joanna said: “I’ve worn pink ones, sparkly ones, big curly ones and fluffy ones.

"The big curly one is definitely my favourite so far.”

Joanna is uncompromising in her commitment to her new facial fuzz: “I wear my moustache to business meetings, MBA lectures, to nights out, family gatherings- the works!

"All in hopes it’ll get people talking and spreading the Movember word.”

Joanna works for the Walton-on-the-Hill based company ‘Shewee’, the manufacturers of a device that allows women to urinate standing up, and she admits that her boyfriend has been a little disconcerted by a girlfriend that can stand up to pee and sports thicker whiskers than he does.

“My boyfriend had a huge beard, but he shaved it off at the start of the month.

"With him clean shaven, and me with a bushy moustache, there was definitely something of a role reversal.

“I haven’t had any problems with moustaches falling off, but my boyfriend hates kissing me with a prickly face.

"Now he knows how women feel!”

Joanna, who has raised over £400 in donations since the start of the month, said: “My original target was £500, but it looks like I’m going to smash that.

"Maybe I should be looking at more like £1,000.”

Though committed to the Movember cause, Joanna drew the line under the suggestion that she might raise even more money if she considered having a moustache permanently tattooed on her upper-lip: “On my face!? "Absolutely not!

"I think my boyfriend would definitely have something to say about that.”
