Two rival developers vying to take control of the Whitgift Centre will be speaking at this year’s Develop Croydon forum.

It emerged this week that Australian company Westfield and European firm Hammerson are both looking to be the redevelopment partner for the North End shopping centre.

John Burton, director of Westfield’s Stratford City project, and Robin Dobson, director of UK retail development at Hammerson, will be making speeches at the conference on Tuesday, November 22 at Fairfield Halls.

Also speaking will be Mayor of London Boris Johsnon, who will talk about his London Plan which looks to add 5,000 new jobs and 8,000 new homes to the capital.

The one-day event will be attended by over 200 delegates, who will also have the chance to hear about other schemes in Croydon including the council’s new Civic Hub, Berkeley Group’s Wellesley Road development and Barratt Homes’ New South Quarter.

The conference, to be chaired by Paul Evans, a local resident and director of UK Regeneration, will feature seminars, discussions and panel workshops led by senior public and private sector decision makers involved in the borough’s development.

Construction company Wates will be sponsoring the event.
