Sutton United Fotball Club's entry into the second round of the FA Cup has turned into a pot of gold for the club.

The Conference South side will meet the worlds oldest league club, and League One high-flyers Notts County in the FA Cup second round.

The David versus Goliath clash will be televised as Sutton United look to recapture the FA Cup spirit of 89' earning the club more than £72,000 in royalties.

As well as the world-wide exposure, the club have won an extra £43,000 in prize money for getting this far.

However Chairman Bruce Elliot has said the club will be using the money to invest in its future.

He said: "When you have a chairman who is an accountant and a very, very sensible board of directors, this will not be squandered."

Councillor Gerry Jerome, Mayor of Sutton, said: “This is one of the biggest games in the club’s history and I’m sure everyone in the borough will be getting behind the team. The fact that it’s being shown on television will make it extra special and I hope the team can recreate the magic of 1989 and do the borough proud.”

MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake said as a Carshalton Athletic fan, he is quite envious.

He said: "Its fantastic news for Sutton United, I hope fans will be turning out in huge numbers. As a Carshalton Athletic supporter, I hope that where Sutton Leads, Carshalton can follow."

On December 4, at 5 pm, the U's will take on the side who gave the mighty Juventus FC their kit, live on ESPN.

President of 150-year-old club Notts County and former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson will no doubt be tuning in to watch the U's attempt to rediscover their giant killing instincts of 1989.

That year will be etched in every Sutton United fan's memory, when the club famously beat the then Division 1 side Coventry City 2-1 at Gander Green Lane.

The city side was predominantly made up of the team which won the FA Cup in 1987.

To this day, Sutton United were the last non-league side to knock top flight opponents out of the FA Cup.
