Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has had a pop at Nathaniel Clyne's advisers but insisted he will continue to treat the contract rebel like any other player.

Clyne enhanced his growing reputation this week by making his England U21 debut at left-back in Thursday night's 5-0 win over Iceland and then playing another 90 minutes on Monday as the young Lions lost 2-1 to Belgium in a European Championship qualifier.

But the 20-year-old, who has made 113 appearances for the Eagles and was named the Championship player of the month for October, is out of contract in the summer and has so far refused to sign a new deal.

The club are still hopeful he might yet change his mind but face the possibility of losing him for a nominal fee in January or for a fee decided by tribunal in July.

Freedman is adamant he has no grudge with Clyne but he is less than happy with the people talking in his ear.

"The contract is still on the table, if Nathaniel wants to sign it fantastic, but if he doesn't then that is his choice," he said.

"It is a shame as I feel we are going somewhere and we are starting to move forward but Clyne has declined the contract and his advisers are thinking he should look to play football somewhere else.

"Sometimes, the best person to advise you is yourself, but in this day and age you have advisers advising players what they should be eating, when they should be sleeping and even how they should be kicking a ball.

"He has got that many people in his head and his life.

"I am not putting any pressure on him though and I am happy to stand alongside him on the training pitch and let him play his football.

"As long as he is here we will work with him the same as anyone else."

Freedman watched Clyne in action on Monday and believes the young starlet deserved his chance.

"It is fantastic for Clyne," he added.

"He has been injured for the first three months of the season but since he has come back he has hit the ground running and long may it continue.

"I watched him on Monday and he did well at left back, he can do that because he is an all rounder."
