Police are investigating a blaze last night which damaged a sacred Hindu wooden ceremonial chariot.
The fire started in Hebdon Road, Tooting, just after 11pm.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene, which is close to the Sivayogam London Muthumari Amman Kovil temple in Upper Tooting Road, and extinguished the fire by midnight.
A fire service spokesman said nobody was injured but the chariot, which is used to transport images of gods, was left damaged.
Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are carrying out inquiries in the area this morning.
Every year there is a huge procession through the streets of Tooting where images of the godess Durga and other deities are carried on a huge ceremonial chariot to celebrate the festival of Durga Puja.
