Thieves have been targeting vans in one of the most expensive roads in England.

Police have reminded van owners not to leave tools in their vehicles following a recent spate of thefts in Oxshott.

A total of five offences, including several thefts from motor vehicles, criminal damage and vehicle interference, all took place in Leys Road and Princes Drive between noon and 2pm on Tuesday, January 3.

Leys Road was recently names the most expensive street outside of London, with houses going for an average of £3,108,000.

Nothing was stolen from a Mercedes Vito van targeted in Leys Road, although its sliding door was damaged.

The thieves did escape with a range of items including three drills and two hand saws from a red Vauxhall Combo van parked in Princes Drive.

They also broke into a white Renault Kangoo van and a white Vauxhall Combo van parked on a construction site in Princes Drive and stole various tools.

Elmbridge crime reduction adviser Elaine Burtenshaw said: “When tools are stolen it can cause a great deal of stress for the owner, particularly if they are self-employed.

“Apart from the hassle of trying to replace them it is often very costly and can provide a major blow to small businesses.”

She advised van owners to remove their tolls from vehicles, and only use a secure lock box if a security cage was installed because there had been a number of incidents where thieves had taken the entire box.
