Lambeth's social workers are celebrating after being named the best in the country at a top industry awards ceremony.

The TOPAZ group (Team Offering People Advice and Support) won ‘Team of the Year’ in the Adult Service category at the National Social Worker of the Year Awards.

The team works to improve the quality of life for vulnerable adults across the borough.

Lambeth social worker Anita Kapur was also named ‘Team Leader of the Year’ in the ceremony at the House of Lords on December 16.

Councillor Jim Dickson, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, commended the winners on their “outstanding achievement”.

"This is fantastic recognition for the work that Anita, the TOPAZ team, and indeed all Lambeth social workers do. To be named the best in the country is an absolutely outstanding achievement, and they should be very proud," he said.

The council's executive director for adults and community services, Jo Cleary, said: "We are fortunate to have such committed social workers, working tirelessly day in and day out, helping our residents to live more independently."
