Who says crime doesn't pay?

A boxing club in Leatherhead has just received £500 from the sale of stolen property.

But it is all legit, as the money has come from the Surrey Police Prisoners Property Fund (PPF).

The PPF allows Surrey Police to sell any property which comes into their possession in connection with a crime, where the owner cannot be found, to fund donations to charities and local causes.

A new amateur boxing club in Ryebridge Close, Leatherhead, which opened in December last year and already has 50 regular members, plans to put the funds toward the purchase of a new 16-foot boxing ring and repairs to the car park.

Club coach, Wayne Johnson, said: “I am particularly keen to give the youngsters of Mole Valley something to focus on and encourage them to get involved in a sport such as boxing where they can meet new friends.

It is also an excellent way to channel aggression”.

PC Gaynor Grout, who presented the cheque to the club, said: “It is always good to support local groups and I am really pleased to be handing over this cheque to the boxing club so they can provide more equipment for those who use the facility.”

The club is open to boys aged between seven and 10 years old on Mondays and Wednesday from 5.30 to 6.30pm, to young men aged between 11 and 17 years old on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 6.30 to 8pm and to men on Fridays from 8 to 9.30pm.
