Part of a rotten oak tree collapsed crushing two cars and damaging another.

The large Cypress Oak in the car park of the Woodstock pub, on Stonecot Road, was weakened by what is believed to be a fungal disease.

Bill Richardson, 22, a mechanic at the service station opposite the pub, had left his blue Renault Clio in the car park.

He said: “I was sweeping up the forecourt and heard a crashing noise. “The tree had landed on my car; it’s completely crushed.

“I ran across the road and it was completely squashed.”
