Sutton scientist wins cancer fighting fellowship

Dr Gerhardt Attard received one of four Cancer Research fellowships awarded to UK clinical investigators
A scientist from Sutton has won a Cancer Research UK fellowship to battle prostate cancer.
Dr Gerhardt Attard received one of four Cancer Research fellowships awarded to UK clinical investigators.
Dr Gerhardt, who works at the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust was awarded £615,000 to develop his career.
The fellowship will support his research to identify new ways to detect and treat advanced prostate cancer.
Dr Attard said: “Receiving funding from Cancer Research UK will allow me to pursue my ambition of improving the treatment of men with advanced prostate cancer through personalised medicine.
“It is a great honour to gain this award which confirms my research strategy is of the highest scientific standard.”
The funding is part of a total three million pound funding pot awarded to the four UK researchers by Cancer Research UK.
The aim is to identify the next generation of clinical research leaders in the UK.
