Volunteers can still opt to swap their cosy warm bed for a night on the streets to raise money for the homeless.

The Kingston Sleep Easy, which is run by the YMCA, sees community members brave the cold and sleep rough so others don’t have to.

The event, which will take place in the Memorial Gardens, attracted an estimated 125 people and more than £15,000 was pledged by sponsors.

Money raised will be split between organisers YMCA London South West, Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness and Faith in Action.

Volunteer rough sleepers, who will include a team of reporters from the Surrey Comet for the third year in a row, face forecasted temperatures of 2C and rain.

Kingston reporters, David Lindsell, Clare Buchanan and Martin George, have set up a justgiving page and have so far raised £150, with a generous £100 from an anonymous donor.

The Kingston Sleep Easy, which will take place on Saturday, January 28, will be the YMCA’s third of the year, with more planned across the country until March.

Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for under 18's and include a t-shirt, hot drinks, soup and breakfast.

The fee also allows the YMCA to put on the nights entertainment and cover admin costs, which means all money raised by participants will go towards helping homeless people.
