Croydon North MP Malcolm Wicks is calling for an urgent investigation into the 'shoddy saga of Croydoc.'

Mr Wicks has called on Andrew Lansley, the Secretary of State for Health, to undertake an investigation into a service he says was run as a "personal fiefdom".

He said: "With the publication of this report we now have chapter and verse about a major abuse of the health service.

"It shows how one GP seized the chance, through the privatisation of an essential health service, to run things not in the interest of patients, but for personal gain.

"The impact on some patients must have been at best stressful, at worst terrifying and dangerous.

"I am calling on Andrew Lansley to investigate the implications for GP-led commissioning, so as to ensure there is a complete separation between patient care and commercial gain.

"I also call on the Secretary of State to call in the police to undertake a criminal investigation into the fraud that has been perpetrated on the NHS."
