School children have been teaming up with the police and road safety officers in an effort to get motorists to cut their speed.
Lambeth has appointed scores of Junior Road Safety Officers from across the borough to monitor the speed of cars on the road during the morning rush hour.
According to new figures, ten people died on Lambeth’s roads in 2011 – more than the total number killed in the two previous years.
Councillor Nigel Haselden, cabinet member for regeneration and planning said he was pleased with the new partnership between the council, police and school children.
"We can make Lambeth’s roads much safer by cutting out dangerous driving behaviour such as speeding and using the phone while driving," he said.
