Nonsuch Park is giving Sutton a unique glimpse into its past.
The doors of Nonsuch Palace Gallery will open every Sunday from January to March to reveal a model of a grand Palace no longer in existence.
In 1538 King Henry VIII, decided to build Nonsuch Palace in an attempt to outdo his rival Francis I of France.
Unfortunately, the history and beauty of the Palace was destroyed by Barbara Villiers, mistress of Charles II, in 1682.
Investigations by Professor Martin Biddle after his excavation of the site in 1959, has enabled the modeller Ben Taggart to re-create this masterpiece.
The model, funded by the Friends of Nonsuch is housed in the Nonsuch Palace Gallery at the Mansion, Ewell Road, Cheam.
The gallery will open every Sunday, 11am - 2 pm from January to March, £2.50 adults, 50p children, under 5’s and members free.
