A drugs raid in Carshalton led to the arrest of three men and a woman yesterday.

Officers forced entry to an address in Neville Walk and searched the property just after 5pm on January 26.

A woman and two men and were arrested on the premises and a third man tried to run away and discard bags of drugs as he did so.

He was caught by police and arrested.

Officers seized a quantity of drugs, £1,000 cash and a bicycle, which was suspected of being stolen.

A 44-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were arrested for possession with intent to supply cannabis.

An 18-year-old man was arrested for possession of cannabis and a 17-year-old man was arrested for conspiracy to supply cannabis.

The raid was part of Operation Hawk, a London-wide initiative to crackdown on neighbourhood criminals.

While the raid was going on a number of people came out into the streets to find out what was going on.

They were provided with leaflets stating: "dThe Metropolitan Police in Sutton is committed to a ‘total war’ on drugs and to reducing the fear of crime that drug misuse causes.

"We hope that our actions will reassure you that such illegal activities will be dealt with robustly and will not be tolerated.”

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Chambers, who leads Sutton’s Safer Neighbourhoods teams, said they were keen for people to come forward with information.

They want people to let them know who is committing crime, anti-social behaviour or disorder in their area so they can target the offenders.

He said: “A recent MORI survey across the Borough indicated that for many drugs is not seen as problem.

However, we know that for some communities it is and we want to protect you from the harm it causes. “Where we identify drugs dealing taking place we will continue to do raids like last night. "My message to communities affected by drugs is talk to us and we will act on your concerns. My message to dealers is we are coming after you.”
