A primary school raised over £11,000 by carrying out the first ever Mini Marsden March.

The whole of Seaton House school, including nursery children, walked from their location on Banstead Road South to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton on Friday March 9.

It was a prelude to the main Marsden March on Sunday which saw thousands walk from the Royal Marsden in Chelsea to the hospital in Sutton.

Every form had its own fundraising web page and each girl was given a target of £30 to raise.

They originally hoped to raise £4000 but the eventual cheque totalled £11,142 and more sponsorship money is expected to come in.

On arrival at the hospital, the girls saw a short film presentation of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge opening the Oak Centre for Children and Young People.

All the money raised by Seaton House will go towards this new facility.

Headmistress, Mrs Virginia Rickus said: “This whole wonderful idea was hatched last year during the inaugural Marsden March.

“Several members of staff who took part, thought at the time it could be a great opportunity for Seaton House to align themselves with the Royal Marsden Hospital and thus the ‘Mini March’ was born.

“The girls, their families and friends have wholeheartedly supported Seaton House in this endeavour resulting in the most magnificent sum of money raised.

“This has been the most successful fundraising event in the history of Seaton House and we are so proud of our school and immensely grateful to everyone concerned.”
