A cat-lover named Bone had to see the funny side after being bitten by a dog.

Denis Bone, 62, was bitten by the Staffordshire-type dog in Central Road, Worcester Park, at 2.20pm on February 18.

He is appealing for witnesses to the attack, which left his leg scarred, to come forward.

But he has also said he has had to try and laugh it off, after becoming the butt of his friend’s jokes, because of his surname.

He said: “It is a little unfortunate, as everyone has been having a field day.

“I am a cat person really. Obviously I would not currently go for a Staffordshire terrier, that’s for sure.”

The Olympic volunteer, of Lavender Avenue, Worcester Park, was returning from training for his role at London 2012 when the attack happened.

As he passed the HSBC bank on the corner of Central Road and Green Lane he was bitten through his jeans by the dog, which was on a lead at the time.

The HR consultant was taken to St Helier Hospital where he received six stitches, as the bite marks were deep enough to expose his muscle.

He said: “When it happened I just looked down and the dog was clamped there”

A woman he presumed was the owner eventually made the dog release its grip and she said sorry before making a quick exit with another woman and a man.

He said: “I want this dog to be tracked down because I do not want this to happen to anyone else. With a child or elderly person it could have caused serious damage.”

Police want to identify the three people with the dog in connection with their inquiries.

They gave released some CCTV from the time to help.
