A man has been arrested in connection with a murder at a YMCA in Croydon.

Rajendra Patel died on March 10 from a pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis of the left thermeral vein and a fracture to the left ankle.

He had been assaulted at the Lansdowne Hostel in Lansdowne Road, Croydon on Tuesday, February 21.

He was taken to a south London hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

But the 48-year-old returned to hospital on Thursday March, 8 where he died the following day.

A post-mortem examination was held at Croydon Mortuary on Tuesday March 13 which gave the cause of death and led to the police launching a murder investigation.

Officers wanted to track down Daniel Bannister, a 37-year-old man.

He was arrested yesterday and remains in custody in a south London police station.

The murder investigation is being led by Acting Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.
