A blind bowling club is urgently appealing for sighted volunteers to help keep it going.

Wandsworth Blind Bowling Club, which practices in King Georges Park, Neville Gill Close, cannot operate without sighted helpers and the last one has moved to Bognor Regis.

The club is 30 years old and was set up in Balham in conjunction with charity Projects for the Blind.

The club organises an annual tournament and competes against other blind bowling teams, with this year's set to take place on June 30.

But without volunteers the tournament cannot go ahead.

Volunteers need to be available for two hours on Monday or Friday from 6pm to 8pm.

They are also looking for sponsors as no Government money is available as it is not an Olympic sport.

Richard Stancombe, club chairman, said: "There is no point recruiting new members until we have got volunteers.

"We need volunteers to help with the club nights."
