A pub landlady is running the North Pole Marathon in memory of her sister who died from a brain haemorrhage.
Becky Newman, 44, of Putney, plans to run 26.2 miles over four days to raise money for Headway South London, a charity that supports people with brain injuries.
The owner of The Bricklayer's Arms, in Waterman Street, Putney, will be tackling subzero temperatures of around -30 degrees and sets off on April 5.
She will be joining 10 British athletes for the race which takes place on ice floes floating on the Arctic Ocean.
The adventurer aims to raise £5,000 and has £2,886 donations so far, which will go towards helping people, family and friends who have suffered from brain injuries.
She said: "Although I’ve run marathons before, this will certainly be my biggest adventure yet. I’ll be running on ice, and the air will be so cold it will make my lungs hurt.
"But the thought of raising money to help fund Headway South West London’s monthly support group for people affected by brain injuries, will keep me going.
"I still need more people help me reach my fundraising target - so please dig deep and help me take on this mighty challenge."
