Pupils in Sutton have interviewed double paralympian gold medallist David Weir as part of a short film project for the London 2012 Games.

Children from Orchard Hill College, Carshalton College, Greenshaw High School and Bandon Hill Primary School met the wheelchair athlete earlier this month to ask him about his Olympic success.

Mr Weir, who lives in Wallington, won two gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

He is also a triple world champion, a five time London Marathon winner, and a double world record holder for the 1500m and 5000m races.

Students at all four schools have been involved in producing, designing and editing the final showreel, which will be shown at the Sutton Paralympic Festival, the Sutton Sports Awards and to Sutton schools and colleges.

Steve Tanner, lecturer at Orchard Hill College, has been supporting students learning about digital media for the project.

He said: “This film has given the students real hands on experience of working together as a film crew to collectively produce a piece of work to be proud of.”

Karen Holt, who represents the Olympic Torch Relay 2012 for Sutton Council, said: “It will be fantastic for us to able to show an inspirational DVD featuring our local sports star to all our schools.

“It will really get people excited and feel connected in preparation for the London 2012 Games in the summer.”
