Four council buildings will be closed to customers this weekend while a utility company carries out essential maintenance work to one of its substations.

Croydon library, Croydon Clocktower, the Town Hall and Taberner House, will all shut from 8.30pm on Friday, March 23 to Monday, March 26 at 6am.

During the closures, the central library will not be open on Saturday, March 24.

The Museum of Croydon and the Clocktower Cafe will also be shut that day, while the registrar’s offices as well as the mayor’s office will be closed all weekend.

But the council’s contact centre will continue to run as it will be relocated to another council building while Taberner house is shut.

The council has said essential services such as CCTV and borough control room will be maintained throughout by back-up generators.

Councillor Sara Bashford, cabinet member for customer services, culture and sport, said: “The council is required to power down the buildings to allow UK Power Networks to carry out statutory maintenance to its public utility substation, which is located within the town hall.

“We have been working to ensure there is as little disruption as possible, however it is inevitable that some services will be affected and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers while this essential work is carried out.”
