British Transport police are appealing for information following a vicious attack at Putney station last month.

Police have released CCTV images of a man in connection with the assault which took place on February 16, at around 11.50pm.

The 40-year-old victim, from Wandsworth, tried to use the onboard toilet after boarding a train at Waterloo.

However another passenger was already inside the cubicle and could be heard using his mobile phone.

When both passengers left the train at Putney station, the victim confronted the man, asking why he refused to let him use the toilet.

The man then pushed him in the chest, before punching and kicking him.

He continued to lash-out even when a fellow passenger stepped in to help the victim who was left with cuts and bruises to his face and neck.

Investigating officer PC Billie-Jean Ayling said: "Thankfully these types of offences are very rare on the rail network, however we are taking this incident very seriously and are determined to catch the man responsible."

Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B7/LSA of 14/03/12.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
