A man hit by a train has died at the scene.

Distressd eye-witnesses said children were among those who saw the incident at Surbiton station at 3.37pm.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service attended but the man, who was believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

A witness from the scene, who did not wish to be named, said: “There were young children that have seen it.

"To be quite honest with you when people first came out there were a number of them visibly upset.

"There were a lot of people crying.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said staff also treated a second patient for minor leg injuries and took him to Kingston Hospital.

The train involved was a Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo service.

Police and ambulance are still at the station.

A BTP spokesman said a file will now be prepared for the coroner.
