Tooting’s well-loved construction gallery, which comes to an end this Sunday, may continue if plans for future funding are approved.

The three month pop-up gallery has been a short-term success showcasing locally-based talent across the fields of visual art, live art, music and literature. However lack of financial backing has left organisers unsure of its upcoming future.

Co-director Pippa Koszerek told of how she would like to make the gallery a more permanent fixture in Tooting.

She said: "We want to keep the exhibition going but this is quite difficult right now.

"We are looking at alternative means of funding the gallery, as well as setting up a new location and maybe even a new business."

The gallery project which includes The Brick Box in Tooting Market and the Tooting Arts Club was put together by the Tooting Arts Network in 2008.

She added: "We are discussing renewing the project with Wandsworth Council who are key to the whole network.

"We want to continue to hold the event in tooting, as both the council and the network want to keep things happening in this area."

The gallery is an arts based project and is free, so funding is essential.

Koszerek said: "We are looking to introduce Arts Council grants to Tooting to provide financial support for the project."

The gallery organisers hope to hear the outcome by the weekend. But if they get the green light, it will take a while to put into action.

The current ‘sculpture’ exhibition will run from Wednesday to Sunday between 12noon to 7pm.

The exhibition takes a fun humorous approach to sculpture by bringing cutting-edge art into under-used and abandoned public spaces.

The closing party on Saturday from 6.30 to 9.30pm is open to everyone and will mark the end of the gallery’s three month run.

The closing celebrations will continue into the night at an audio-visual spectacular event at the Brick Box in Tooting Market.

The show will feature shadow play, projections, performances, live art and the return of the silent disco.
