Croquet has been a roaring success in Cheam.
A project was set up to combine a croquet and bowls club in order to the make use of the bowls in Cheam Park.
The organisers of the project said they are still reeling from the overwhelming success they saw over their taster weekend on March 25-26.
One of the organisers, Jean Cobbold said: “About 100 people tried the game of croquet and some also tried bowls at the green in Cheam Park.
“Everybody seemed to have a good time and many signed up there and then to join the new club.”
The new croquet and bowls club has a membership of 80 and a waiting list has now been opened as the club is already well above the usual number for a single lawn croquet club.
There will be opportunities in the future for people to try both activities which the club will publicise once it is fully up and running.
