Six men accused of beating a footballer into a coma while in holiday in Greece are set to face trial in November.

Former Sutton United and Croydon Athletic footballer Robbie Hughes, who is set to represent Great Britain in the Paralympic Games this summer, needed four life-saving operations after the attack outside a nightclub in Malia, Crete, in June 2008.

Curtis Taylor, Daniel Bell, Sean Branton, all from Horley, Benjamin Herdman, from Worth, Sussex, George Hollands, from Reigate, and Joseph Bruckland, of Hookwood, Surrey, are accused of carrying out the attack.

They have all previously been extradited to Greece, but were allowed back to the UK awaiting trial.

A trial date in Crete has now been set for November 20.

Mr Hughes, of Croydon, now suffers from a brain injury and severe memory loss because of the attack.

He has recently been training with Sutton United reserves, and is in the team GB football squad ahead of the Paralympic Games this summer.
