Sutton will receive more than £15m to support the provision of school places.

The government allocated £600m to the Department of Education in November 2011.

It was decided last week that Sutton would be one of the highest recipients of the money in the country.

MP for Sutton and Cheam Paul Burstow said: "I am delighted that the Department of Education has recognised that Sutton desperately needs more school places.

"Sutton has some of the best schools in the country, but we need to make sure that our schools can cope with the year-on-year increase in demand.

"This money is a great start but more is needed to help Sutton provide for our children.

"I am working with the my Lib Dem colleagues on the Council to lobby for more funding for our schools to make sure that the fantastic standard of education we receive can continue."
