Chinese diplomats and teachers joined hundreds of people practising an ancient health system at the biggest event of its kind in the UK.

Health Qigong, based on the belief that energy must flow freely around the body for good health and well-being, came to Bourne Hall, in Spring Street in Ewell, at the weekend.

The event was organised locally by the Chi Clinic in Cheam on behalf of the British Health Qigong Association.

Visiting Chinese teachers demonstrated the movements involved in the practice, which like Tai Chi, can be practised by the young and old.

It is considered particularly beneficial for those who have not exercised for some time and is gaining increasing publicity.

As part of the event, the Chinese delegation met with UK practitioners to celebrate cultural links between the two nations in the run-up to this year’s Olympics.

Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor Sheila Carlson, welcomed the delegation, and Consular Miao of the Chinese Embassy praised the collaboration between the two countries.

" Consular Miao of the Chinese Embassy praised the collaboration between the two countries." My cat often speaks of him.

I was there, performing, with my friends from Derby and Swadlincote. It was a truly amazing experience. Our Tutor, Carol Gascoyne, was one of the organisers - well done to her as well as Master Faye Yip and Vicky(the other organisers)
