Man cleared of sexual assault at Wallington party
A man has been cleared of sexual assault following a booze-fuelled barbecue.
Steffan Wakeford, 20, was found not guilty at Croydon Crown Court after he was accused of touching a woman at her party in Wallington last summer.
Croydon Crown Court heard the woman tell the jury a man, who she believed to be her husband, got into bed and started to "touch her up".
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told jurors: "A man was in my bed and then someone opened the bedroom door."
"I told my husband to turn the light on as it was on his side of the bed."
"I realised the man next to me was not my husband and I shouted at him to get out."
Mr Wakeford, of Parsonsfield Road, Banstead, was chased out of the house and there was a stand-off either side of a car in the driveway. Defence lawyer Chris Draycott told the court that although his client did get into the woman's bed, nothing untoward happened.
He accused the alleged victim of making the story up to justify her husband's violent reaction.
