Tributes have been paid to professional boxer Lewis Pinto who died this morning.

The 24-year-old from Wallington made his début at Elephant & Castle in April, when an army of fans from around the country saw him beat Danny Dontchev comfortably on points, after a successful couple of years competing on the amateur circuit and in the Queensbury Boxing League.

It has not yet been confirmed how he died, but his manager Mickey Helliet tweeted: "I am very very sorry, something terrible has happened but the rumours are true my boxer and good friend Lewis Pinto, hung himself this morning."

Tributes to the boxer, who trained at Keddles Gym in Orpington, have flooded social networking sites.

Twitter user Richard C tweeted: "Shocked to hear that Lewis Pinto has died. Love to his family and friends right now," another user DJ Tomo P tweeted: "Just heard about the death of a young pro boxer, such a shame. RIP Lewis Pinto."

Just heard this awful news from the neighbours. I couldn't believe it. I am shocked and saddened to hear it is true. My thoughts go out to his family and everyone that knew him. Everyone was proud of your boxing success Lewis, I'm sure you won't be forgotten.

" Jesus, just heard the sad news from my eldest daughter who used to hang around with Lewis when they were younger. I also used to work with his mum at Cinatras nightclub, donkeys years ago. I am so so sorry to hear of such a tragic loss of a young life. My heart goes out to family & friends.. Thinking of you all."

So So sad, lots of love and thoughts go out to the family, i am now wondering if i also worked with his mum wedding 08 many moons ago? May you r.i.p x

R.I.P. Lewis. Thank you for the time i knew you. You was a great kid and a loving adult. There is a hole left in the family without you.I was proud to watch you grow in to the man you become.
