Rain is set to continue to batter south London and Surrey this morning.

However, forecasters at the Met Office are predicting showers will become more sparse this afternoon, with possible sunny interludes providing some respite between downpours.

A forecaster said: "Rain around at first, locally heavy, will gradually become less widespread and lighter through the day.

"Later, some brightness may develop across the Home Counties."

Temperatures will reach around 14C.

Tonight would see continued outbreaks of rain, he added, although conditions would remain dry with some clear spells and temperatures reaching 17C.

Wednesday would see some sunny intervals, although showers would remain a constant, the forecaster said.

"There will be often large amounts of cloud, but also some sunny intervals, along with scattered showers," he explained.

"Some showers may become rather heavy. Feeling a little warmer."
