A woman attempted suicide at Sutton train station this morning.

Southern and First Capital Connect services passing through Sutton are currently expected to be suspended until 3.30pm and tickets are being accepted on relevant buses.

The woman, believed to be in her thirties and from Sutton, attached herself to a gantry on the north side of the station.

Police officers spoke to her and tried to coax her down before storming up the structure to remove her.

The woman was removed and detained by police. She has been taken to hospital for assessment.

The police, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade all attended the scene.

The British Transport Police said they were called just before 12am to a report of a woman trespassing and climbing on to a gantry.

hoping whatever drove her to such desperate action is sorted for her- even though I was one of the many affected by this- losing a looked-forward-to trip up to London- I wish her to become well again
