A major police operation saw more than 100 officers target premises suspected of carrying out unlicensed activity.

Businesses were visited by police, working with Sutton Council licensing and trading standards team, the Benefits Agency and the UK Border Agency on Friday and Saturday.

Thirteen arrests were made for offences including drug offences, shoplifting and money laundering. Five were made for illegal working, illegal entry and overstaying by foreigners.

Sales staff at two premises failed a test about selling alcohol to underage teenagers and received £80 fines.

The Sutton operation, part of licensing initiative Operation Condor, was co-ordinated and led by Sutton town centre inspector Richard Hall, who promised to continue to crackdown on those who flout licensing laws.
