A staggering £40,000 has been raised for St Raphael’s Hospice through their summer fundraising programme.

The events culminated in a Queen tribute concert at Nonsuch Park, Cheam, on July 5.

The band, called The Bohemians, performed Queen’s greatest hits including We Are the Champions and Bohemian Rhapsody.

One couple, Cherie and Don Chantler, travelled from Perth Australia and planned their trip around the event.

Some members of the audience dressed up as Freddie mercury complete with wigs, yellow jackets and white trousers.

Susannah Forland, the events organiser at St Raphael’s Hospice, said: “Over 450 people attended this lively concert – we want to thank everyone for coming.

“We were so lucky with the weather – despite days of rain, we had a clear beautiful summer evening.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed having their picnics and listening to the music.”

The summer programme consisted of several events including the Thames-side Walk, Diamond Jubilee Walk and the summer fete.

Keith Witham the director of fundraising at St Raphael’s Hospice said: “We are delighted this series of summer events has raised so much money and thank everyone for their support.”
