England rugby star Danny Care will not be prosecuted over an allegation of sexual assault on a woman in Leeds.
The 25-year-old Cobham resident was arrested in March and bailed pending further inquiries, but both the police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have decided to take no further action.
The Harlequins scrum-half said he was “relieved and happy” at the decision and thanked those who had supported him.
Harlequins said in a statement: “The CPS and West Yorkshire Police have advised Danny Care’s legal representatives that he will not be charged in relation to an alleged incident of sexual assault in Leeds.”
Care was recalled to the England team after a series of alcohol-related incidents off-field.
Among those was an incident outside Noir Bar, Weybridge, in December which saw him fined by police for being drunk and disorderly.
Care was also fined £10,000 by Harlequins for the incident.
He was also handed a 16-month driving ban after police arrested him for drink driving in the on New Year’s Day.
He said: “I had to sort my life out. I took a long hard look in the mirror and I’ve done that.”
