The number of people living in Kingston has risen by 7.4 per cent in just ten years, according to the latest census released this week.
In just a decade the number of residents living in the Royal Borough of Kingston has jumped from 149,000 in 2001 to 160,100 in 2011.
One reason for the high increase could be the rising birth rate which has led to the need for extra bulge classrooms at Kingston primary schools since September 2008 and a call for a new secondary school.
According to the census data released on Monday there are 11,000 under four’s in Kingston, 7,000 five to nine year olds and 8,500 ten to 14 year olds.
In total the population of London, on census polling day of Tuesday, March 27 2011, and published by the office for national statistics, has increased by 12 per cent.
The number of residents living across the capital jumped from 7.3 million people to 8.2 million.
