Charity staff tricked into giving refund

A man tricked charity staff into giving him a refund for gifts on display in their shop.
The man entered St Raphael’s Hospice Shop in Cheam High Street and browsed the displays before picking up three framed photographs and putting them on the counter.
He said he had been in touch with their head office and was told he could have a refund for the photos he purchased last week, although he had no receipt.
Staff checked with Head Office who said they were not aware of any such enquiry.
The man was given a refund of £50 provided he made a donation of £10 which he did. The suspect left with £40 cash.
The shop realised they had been conned when they discovered a mismatch between the dates the frames were put on sale and when the man said he had purchased them.
The suspect is described as a white male, aged 55-60 years old with a strong New Zealand accent.
The man in the CCTV images was in the shop at the time of the incident on Monday May 14 at around 3.30pm and may have information that could help police with their enquiries.
The individual may not be connected with the offence and may be innocent.
