Show your commitment to saving St Helier Hospital by coming together for a giant picnic.

Over a thousand revellers are expected to attend the party with a purpose on Saturday, September 8, on the green outside St Helier Hospital.

From lunchtime onwards visitors to the St Helier Fun Day can enjoy entertainers, raffles, tombolas, face painting and stalls.

The whole community has got together to arrange the day, but one of the chief organisers St Helier mum, Michelle Baker, said: “This is going to be a fantastic day out, so come along and join in the fun.

“If you want to take part that’s great, but if you just want to enjoy another party after the Jubilee, the Torch relay and the Olympics that’s fine too.”

The purpose of the day is to continue the fight against the proposed closure of the hospital’s accident and emergency, maternity and children’s wards.

Visitors will be able to listen to speeches from hospital users and petitions with thousands of signatures will be presented to representatives of the panel which recommended the changes.

The leader of Sutton Council and St Helier campaigner Ruth Dombey, said: “First and foremost I want everyone to come along and have a great day out.

“But while you’re there take the time to find out what they plan to do to our hospital and then sign the petition and join the fight.”
