This old photograph was found by a Sutton United footballer’s daughter 79 years after it was taken.

84-year-old Joyce Gillham from West Wickham found the old picture of her father after a member of her family died.

Her father, Jack Levett, the man in a suit with a towel over his arm, used to play for the team before becoming a coach.

Mrs Gillham said: "I just thought if you put it in the paper there might be people who recognise their grandfathers.

"I found it just the other week - and dad was always telling us about the team.

"I was thrilled to find that one. I don’t know anything about it at all.

"Don’t they all look serious - no smiles. Perhaps they lost.

"He would have been 33 - he was born in 1900. He was a lovely man. I think the reason he gave up football was extraordinary. When I was a year old and he was 27 he had a stroke."

That can’t possibly be Sutton United – there are trophies in the picture.
