One thousand cupcakes were created at a 24-hour charity bakeathon at the weekend.

Sophie Clapton, from Worcester Park, and her friends Amy Lelliott and Sabrina Wood, from Epsom, embarked on the mission to raise money for charity Health Improvement Project Zanzibar (HIPZ) which was established in 2006 to improve healthcare in Zanzibar.

The team produced 1,048 cupcakes, which they gave to an old persons coffee morning, a kids club, and a local charity shop, with the rest being sold on the day, raising £800 for HIPZ.

Ms Lelliott said: "The bakeathon was so much fun, and we received so much support from friends, family, and local businesses.

"We couldn't have done it without the generous donations of ingredients, and the time and effort of the whole team. Everyone enjoyed the cakes, and we are so pleased to have raised so much money for charity.
