Man arrested after cannabis factory uncovered

SUTT: Cannabis factory raid SUTT: Cannabis factory raid

Police raiding a house in Cheam have uncovered a sophisticated cannabis factory.

On Tuesday morning police forced entry into an address in South Drive, where three bedrooms were being used to grow the plants.

A man in his 20s was found inside and arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis.

Inspector Richard Hall, of Sutton Police Station, said: "This was a good result which has led to a man being arrested and a significant haul of drugs being seized. This was a sophisticated cannabis factory which we are shutting down."

The raid was part of Operation Hawk, an MPS wide initiative to tackle local criminals involving local officers acting swiftly to information received from local communities.

The property was being let to a tenant and so police are advising landlords to make regular checks on their properties.

They encouraged residents to get in touch if they have information about any suspicious behaviour in their street that could help police.

Sutton Police station can be contacted on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
