Fitness fanatic MP Tom Brake was on hand to open a pharmacy with a difference in Carshalton last week.

Mr Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, met with owner of Mount Elgon Pharmacy and pharmacist Raj Patel to discuss what is on offer.

The pharmacy is understood to be the only one in the area to offer a range of services including a free NHS stop smoking service, free NHS healthcheck, diabetes screening, emergency hormonal contraception and a weight loss clinic.

Raj Patel , said: "I am delighted that Mr Brake is here to see for himself the crucial role that pharmacies play in promoting good health and delivering vital NHS services close to where people live, work and shop."

Tom Brake MP said: "I wanted to see for myself some of the developments in community pharmacies that mean my constituents can access a range of NHS services on their doorstep."

Anna's pharmacy at the circle offers far more and is an existing, long running community chemist. Should an MP be allowed to promote an enterprise on a comercial basis regardless of how fit he thinks he is? It is unfare, bearing in mind Mr Brakes public position, that he is seen to be involved in promoting one bussiness above others whilst giving the immpression of concern for services offered. Impartiality from our local MP please Mr Brake.

Not much of a trade off in the context of losing such a huge part of our local St. Helier District General Hospital. Mr. Paul Burstow MP while still Care Minister took a photo opportunity in Sutton Town Centre to promote a private care company so it's been done before. Come on you MPs, give us the newspaper report most want to read: that our excellent and so highly valued St. Helier District General Hospital is to remain uncut by the BSBV saga of madness.
