The council is calling on Olympics Games Makers to step forward and suggest celebration ideas.

Sutton Council is planning to celebrate the achievements of athletes and Games Makers who helped shape the success of London 2012.

Discussions are already underway with the most successful Paralympian in history David Weir and Joanna Roswell about what they would like to do.

The council is hoping Sutton's Games Makers will also have some good ideas and suggest ways they would like to be honoured.

Games Makers from the borough volunteered during the games to make sure everything ran smoothly, with Sutton residents making up part of the 70,000 strong army.

Councillor Ruth Dombey, leader of Sutton Council, said: "These volunteers deserve all the praise that has been heaped on them. They epitomise the very best that this country has to offer and we want to say thank you.

"We are already planning the Community Awards for early next year when our athletes and Games Makers are sure to be honoured, but we’d love to hear what else we can do. Please come forward with your ideas.

"David Weir and Joanna Rowsell are thrilled that Sutton wants to honour their amazing achievements and we’re talking to them about finding time in their busy diaries.

"I want to talk to Games Makers and find out from them how we can use their talent and enthusiasm right here in Sutton."

Games Makers who are interested in taking part can email leader@sutton.gov.uk or call 020 8770 5406.
