Giant pencil bollards prove a hit with kids in Worcester Park

Forget about boring bollards it is all about giant pencils for Worcester Park kids.

The huge pencil bollards are helping children from Green Lane primary school in Worcester Park get to and from school more safely.

The bright new bollards were installed during the school summer holidays as part of a £20,000 revamp.

Other road calming measures have been brought in including a traffic island, road markings and re-kerbing.

Headteacher Sally Berlemont said: “Parents have already complimented us on how much safer the roads are and the children really like the bollards.

“Parents are already saying that the roads are so much safer that they are much more likely to let children walk or cycle to school.”

I must say they do look fantastic but my only concern would be children running off ahead to play around them. They are right by the roadside. If they run around them chasing their friends they might trip into the road.
I am a mother myself and my daughter would be the sort of child to do this.
Hopefully other areas surrounding schools will be made safer too. Beddington Infants have campaigned for a crossing on Croydon Road for years with no luck.
