Cheam Tennis Club gets £65,000 in grants
A tennis club is celebrating after receiving £65,000 in grants.
Cheam Lawn Tennis Club got all three grants it applied for this year from Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund.
The biggest win was Sport England's Inspired Facilities grant for £50k which will enable the Club to put in Lawn Tennis Association standard floodlighting on all five of the club's courts in the next few weeks.
A second grant of £7.5k was obtained from the Big Lottery Fund to promote fitness especially among women aged 16 upwards and is being used to fund a large number of cardio tennis fitness sessions that will be offered free to Sutton residents.
Sport England provided another grant which will allow the club to offer four free coaching sessions from a professional coach to adults in the Sutton and Cheam area.
Ian Bull, chairman of the club, said: "This is a big boost for sport especially in fitness and tennis.
The grants are a great success and will enable us to offer more free lessons to people to get them into the sport."
