A dog owner has been given a conditional discharge after admitting having a fighting dog.

Amjad Khan, 51, of Forest Road, Sutton, was ordered to pay £85 costs and given the discharge after pleading guilty to possessing a fighting dog at Croydon Magistrates Court on October 5.

The dog will be spared if Khan registers it, has it tattooed, microchipped and insured as well as muzzled and kept on a lead in public places.

Police carried out a warrant under the Dangerous Dogs Act on Khan's address on Wednesday September 26.

Local officers had seen two men walking the dog off the leash in nearby Sutton Common Park and had seen the dog loose behind metal gates on a shared driveway in Forest Road.

There was no evidence the dog had harmed another dog or a member of the public.
