A young man inspired to get involved with fundraising by his family after losing his mother to cancer will kayak down the Thames.

Charlie Mott, 17, his father and a family friend will embark on the challenge over the coming days.

The trio will kayak 135 miles between Cricklade in Wiltshire and Kingston upon Thames to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Between 17 and 20 October, the three men will negotiate 44 locks along the journey comedian David Walliams swam for Sport Relief last year.

A celebratory party and raffle will follow in Kingston on Saturday.

So far they have raised just over £10,000. They have set up a website detailing their challenge which can be found at marsdenkayakchallenge.co.uk.
