The troubled Croydon Village Outlet department store is under new ownership and will relaunch tomorrow under the stewardship of of a property and retail tycoon.

Clive Coombes hopes to turn around the beleaguered former Allders store, which was been in administration since April, under its new name Zervo.

Mr Coombes, who launched a discount electricals retailer last year after unsuccessfully trying to save the Comet brand, promised the North End store would sell a wider range of stock than Croydon Village Outlet.

He said the takeover had secured 90 jobs.

Mr Coombes is working with a recruitment company to give jobs to ex-armed forces personnel.

The new store will launch at 10am tomorrow.

Croydon Village Outlet opened in September 2013, when co-owner Marco Cash declared it would last 150 years years and become an "established force pulling millions of people into the town".

But it soon ran into trouble, with staff going unpaid and concessions withdrawing amid poor footfall.
