A pub whose customers took it over when it was on the brink of closure has received another award.

The Hope in Carshalton has been crowned pub of the year for Sutton for the third time in four years.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) award was presented to bar manager and cellerman Rowan Barrett at a recent award ceremony by CAMRA chairman Dave Lands.

Since it was saved by customers in 2010, the pub has gone from strength to strength.

CAMRA has over 130,000 members of whom approximately 1310 live in the boroughs of Croydon and Sutton.

A well-deserved award - it's a fantastic pub. Times are hard for traditional pubs, and the Hope shows how pubs need to be proactive to stay afloat. There's a whole world out there beyond the pubs serving the same old dull brown ale and lager, year in, year out.
